The Hayes Project wins the top prize at the 2026 national crime-beat awards
The community-based Making Hayes Safer project - which Andrew Fuller worked on - was honoured at a High Sheriffs’ Association ceremony in London, recognising innovative crime prevention work involving young people across England and Wales. Funded by the Mayor of London’s Violence Reduction Unit, it brought residents together with early intervention support and positive opportunities.
- 300+ residents attended a knife crime action day in the park next to Botwell Green Library
- 100 free meals served to young people
- 30 at-risk boys known to services, including the Youth Justice Service, took part in life-skills activities
- 54 young people took part in a creative workshop on the Young Urban Arts multimedia bus at Botwell Green Library
- 50 young people took part in the Level Up Behaviour Intervention Programme
- 300+ weapons safely disposed of in the Pump Lane car park weapons surrender bin
